Route Overview

About the Rongai Route

The Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. It offers a completely different ecological and visual experience — drier, wilder, and far less busy than southern routes. The northern approach gives views of Kilimanjaro rarely seen by most trekkers.

Why Choose This Route

1
Only northern approach on Kilimanjaro
2
Significantly fewer trekkers — true wilderness feeling
3
Drier northern slopes — better in green season
4
Unique views of the northern icefields
5
Gradual, well-paced ascent profile
6
Excellent for trekkers seeking solitude

Guide's Note

George Mushi

Professional Tanzania Safari & Kilimanjaro Guide

"Rongai is my suggestion for guests who want something truly different. The northern side of Kilimanjaro has its own character — wider, quieter, more remote. You don't see many other trekkers. And the approach from near the Kenyan border gives a completely fresh perspective on the mountain."
