About the Marangu Route
The Marangu Route is Kilimanjaro's oldest and most established trail — the only route with sleeping huts instead of tents. It follows the same path both up and down, making it less scenic than other routes. The shorter acclimatisation profile gives it a lower summit success rate, though its relative comfort makes it popular with first-time trekkers.

Guide's Note
George Mushi
Professional Tanzania Safari & Kilimanjaro Guide
"Marangu is comfortable but has a real challenge — the short acclimatisation schedule. I always recommend 6 days over 5 if you choose Marangu. The huts are a genuine advantage in bad weather. Just respect the altitude and don't be tempted to rush."
Essential Kilimanjaro Packing & Gear
What you carry on Kilimanjaro matters. Layers, the right boots, and proper acclimatisation aids make the difference between a successful summit and a difficult descent.
